What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Roots of Yggdrasil is a game we built with the community in mind from the get-go. That's the whole reason behind our Kickstarter campaign, as well as our monthly playtests and demo periods over the past year. This type of iteration is what we believe makes games great!

We want the players to be involved every step of the way, to make sure we not only realize our vision of what the game can be, but also the version of it that will appeal the most to our players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We'd like to keep the game in Early Access for a maximum of 6 months, but the length of the EA period will really depend on player feedback; if we feel like the community wants more and more content, we're open to the idea of extending the EA a bit to make sure we manage to polish new features as much as possible.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add the main story as well as additional relationships with existing and new characters in the full release. We intend to bring more buildings, action cards, artifacts and encounters to the game for the full release. Finally, we intend to bring more meta-progression systems into the Hubworld of the game to add to the experience in between the roguelike loops.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core game is fully playable and polished. Players can embark on an expedition to Yggdrasil, complete multiple maps and reach the end of the roguelike loop. They can bring back resources to advance meta progression and unlock more content for subsequent loops.

However, while the early access is still very replayable and contains a good variety of buildings and artifact, we want to use the early access period to make sure the content we add is relevant to the players' wants. We also want to use the early access to help with the final balancing of the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We don't plan on raising the price gradually. The Early Access price will remain constant for the duration of EA (excluding discounted periods), and the final game will sell for a slightly more expensive price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As we've been doing ever since the Kickstarter in February 2023, we will push for players to join us on Discord and monitor Steam discussion forums in order to gather feedback and make the game even better!”

About This Game

Ragnarok is here. Stuck in a perpetual time loop, Sunna and her tribe of Vikings must explore a fractured World Tree and attempt to reach the top of Yggdrasil.

Create settlements, build your deck and collect artifacts as you explore the nine realms of Norse Mythology in search of answers in this roguelike city-building game. Can you overcome and survive the new dangers of this broken world?

Players’ settlements will constantly be in a race against time to avoid the Ginnungagap. Each failure will bring them back to the beginning of their adventure, where they can start anew with more knowledge and a better mastery of the game mechanics.

The Holt is your permanent, customizable home and acts as the main hub of the game. Unlock new mechanics and permanent upgrades that will help you rebuild your tribe!

Befriend a diverse cast of Scions that will bring unique playstyles, bonus and modifiers to each loop.

Procedurally generated islands, encounters, and events will punctuate your experience, guaranteeing that no two expeditions are the same! Before each run, add and remove building cards to your deck to create different challenges and opportunities each time.
